How to get double jump in Crash 1 and 2 on NST PS4
#1
Last month I uploaded a video showing how to unlock the double jump in Crash 1 and 2 on the PC version of the N Sane Trilogy by using glitched save files, and I speculated that because I wasn’t actually modding the game itself, it might be possible to get it working on the console versions. Since then I did manage to get it working on PS4, which is the only one I have access to. Here’s how to do it:

Requirements Step 1
Download and unzip the double jump save files. ALCHEMYXSAVE_1.sav is for Crash 1 and ALCHEMYXSAVE_5.sav is for Crash 2. Open the N’sane Save fixer and drag whichever of these you want to convert for PS4 onto it and click FIX IT! The save will be modified to be compatible with PS4.

Step 2
Copy the PS4 save slots you want to replace with the glitched saves to a USB device by inserting the USB, then going into the settings menu on the PS4 home screen and selecting Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device > Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. There will be up to 4 save files corresponding to each game of the trilogy - the autosave and 3 manual saves. If you want to use the double jump in both Crash 1 and Crash 2 then you’ll need to copy one save file from each of those games, or if you only want to use it with one then you only need a save from that game. Whichever save files you copy will be replaced by the double jump saves later so you will lose your progress, make sure you keep a copy of these original files somewhere if you want to restore them later. Highlight the saves you want to replace and select “copy” to copy the to your USB device.

Step 3
Insert the USB drive into your PC and open Save Wizard (if you want to backup your original PS4 save files somewhere safe first they should be located in the PS4 folder on the root of the USB). Save Wizard will automatically detect the save files. Double click on Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy to expand it and you should see Crash Bandicoot and/or Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back listed, depending on what you copied. Right click on one of these and select Register Profile and click apply (doesn’t have to be your PSN name, can be anything you want). This profile name will now be shown next to all the copied saves and the save files can be modified.

Step 4
Right click on Crash Bandicoot or Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and select Advanced Mode. This will take a few seconds to load as Save Wizard uploads the file for decryption. When the Advanced Mode window appears, type some random text into the data column - it doesn’t matter what because you’ll be replacing the contents of this file but you need to change something so the apply button unlocks. Click on the curved arrow in the top right (Import to file) and select whichever modified double jump save you want to import that you created in step 1. Make sure you’re importing the right file to the right game. Click apply, and then yes. Click OK when you get the “modifications successfully applied” message and if you’re replacing save files for both games, repeat step 4 for the other one. Once you’re done you can close Save Wizard.

Step 5
Plug the USB drive back into your PS4, and go to Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data on USB Storage Device > Copy to System Storage > Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy in the settings menu, and copy the modified save files back to your PS4. You’ll get a message asking if you want to overwrite the existing save data so if you’re sure you do, select yes. Once the files are copied to your PS4 you can delete them from the USB device.

Step 6
Launch the N Sane Trilogy on your PS4 and press continue on either Crash 1 or Crash 2, depending on which one(s) you imported the double jump to. Press L2 to open the load menu and load the glitched save. On Crash 1 it will be a 1% save that shows Toad Village, and on Crash 2 it’s 1% and Bone Yard. The double jump should work on those save games the same way it does in Crash 3.

I hope this explains why I couldn’t just upload my own PS4 save files like I did for the PC version to share this glitch - the files are encrypted and signed to my PSN so cannot be used with any other account without using Save Wizard to convert them. I have no idea if you can do a similar thing on the Switch or Xbox versions because I don’t know anything about either of those consoles. The double jump is the only Crash 3 super power that can be used in the other games without modding the actual game files so the others will not work with this method.

Thanks for sharing this and congrats on getting the site up and running. I got it working on my PS4 a while back after browsing NextGenUpdate. Do you think you can also upload a save with the speed shoes enabled on Crash 1? I understand the effects of mods may not transfer over to a save, but I'm willing to try it regardless to see if it will work on PS4 using Save Wizard.

I remember on one of your streams you mentioned that the double jump glitch works on Crash 1 because it's apparently built into the game but not accessible normally. Perhaps it's possible to find the value that makes double jump work and inject another power in place of it so that it works with the glitched save. Crash 2 awards you with the speed shoes after defeating Cortex, maybe that can be applied to Crash 1 as well and permanently saved.

Just my thoughts. Anyway, I'm sure you or someone else will find a way to get it working. Keep up the good work with the modding.

This was a good shout because I hadn't actually tested it with the other powers on PS4 and was just assuming it worked the same as the PC version. I've tried it now with all super powers unlocked and the double jump is still the only one that works, unfortunately.

You can swap the powers around and apply that to a save file which will work on PS4 but it's still only the double jump that will actually function. If you replace the double jump with the fruit bazooka, for example, and then save that as a Crash 1 save, when you load the game then nothing will happen when you try to use the bazooka, or the double jump because you've replaced it. Same story with the Crash 2 speed shoes, they will only work in Crash 2. I have tried experimenting with all this stuff and I'm fairly confident that with this particular method it's only ever gonna be the double jump that works. There may be more stuff we can do to the PS4 version by editing the save files directly but I haven't looked into that yet.

I am trying to find a way to get all super powers working on Crash 1 and 2 without needing to use cheat engine which is how I'm doing it at the moment and if I can work that out then that might be a step in the right direction but I think it's unlikely that there will be any way to carry that across to the console versions. If you want speed shoes on Crash 1 on PC then there's a few ways you can do that which I'll be posting about soon, but those involve modding the game files so cannot be applied to save slots.

I see. That's unfortunate. Maybe there's a chance to mod the save files to get the other powers working on both PC & PS4. Hopefully we'll get an update from you regarding this in the near future. Cheers.

So, could the buttons that activate the other super Powers be completely disabled in Crash 1?

Does Super Belly Flop work in Crash 2?
I'm an evil scientist, what do you expect? This isn't a game, you know...
